| What forces shaped a young schoolboy into the most feared killer in the American West? Here begins the trail of Billy the Kid. Young Billy the musical follows in his footsteps from schoolboy to his final scenes. No official record of birth for Billy has ever been found, but he was born Henry McCarty, and he may have been born in New York City around 1859. His mother's name was Catherine McCarty, his father's name and other information has been lost to history. Henry had a younger brother named Josie. Catherine had a laundry business in Kansas, and was recognized as a business owner. The family may have lived in Denver prior to arriving in Silver City, New Mexico in the spring of 1873. The family initially did well, but eventually the forces took hold that shaped young Henry McCarty into William H. Bonney and finally into Billy the Kid. The musical Young Billy explores this period, and carries on through the Lincoln County War and the beginnings of the Legend of Billy the Kid.
